A funny thing happened on the way to S.M. City Motorsports

I’ve been meaning to get down to California (Maryland that is) to see the crew at S.M. City when one day, push came to shove. I had been running up and down the road putting some miles on my bike, when I went to roll her into the garage “BOING”. A strange metallic sound came from behind. When I looked back the lip on my rear sprocket was hanging on my axle. Needless to say I was pissed, and lucky it didn’t happen on the road doing other than the speed limit, or any speed for that matter.

I removed the fat rear wheel. Figuring I wanted to check out S.M. City this was as good an excuse as they come.  I rolled into the shop to find Johnny B and Rusty (brothers in crime) actually interested in helping me. Seeing how these two build some of the best customs in the area, I was surprised at the lack off attitude. In fact, they were down to earth friendly.

After careful inspection, and consideration they pointed out the design flaws of Custom Chrome’s set up, and suggested some re engineering. As it was, CCI’s broken sprocket has both lips just pressed in. HD’s are one piece with the inside lip is well attached. CCI sent me two flat spacers, S.M.City had a spacer machined with lips on both sides to fit the wheel and HD sprocket. The difference is now my wheel and sprocket line up, no more loose and tight spots in my rear belt, no more broken spokes from torque changes, and less vibration. Cool right, just wish I knew better when I put it together the first time. Imagine my surprise, I thought I had a high dollar billet aluminum sprocket. It was high dollar, but junk

If you need help, check these guys out. From parts to some of the best built, nicest looking custom bikes anywhere. They’re good without the attitude.
